Anyone been to Iceland
|
And not Peter Andrés one.
Looks so much to do and only going for 2/3 nights, what should I not miss.

the lights are pretty average to look at I thought. They are actually much better viewed tghrough a camera as the lens can pick up far more of the colours than the human eye can, so dont expect it to look like all the movies you see.
generally however, its a magnificent place, with very accomodating locals :)

Friend of mine recently proposed in front of the Northern Lights there.
Said it was a cracking place, though he was extremely lucky with the weather by all accounts.

Went last Feb and thought it was excellent.
The Golden Circle tour takes in all the main sites. As said below, I didn't find the hotels or restaurants that expensive although the drink was (apart from in the various happy hours).
And don't eat the rotten shark as it is vile.
My brother in law runs a coffee shop out so if you go send me a whomail as I'm sure he'd be happy to point you in the right direction of decent bars etc once you're out there.

Yes and going again in November
Firstly it's far from boring, well unless you're a boat and stadium obsessed freak.
The nightlife is excellent and the scenery beyond what you'll get anywhere else.
As for expensive? It's not, the flights & hotels are cheap, there's plenty to do on all budgets and as for food and drink, well they are basically London prices are cheaper than elsewhere in that part of the world.
www.toursticketstrips.com has an outstanding selection or well, tours & trips and www.absoluteiceland.com has a range of different packages from the UK.

I have been there and mentioned the moon reference as I was told that the Apollo astronauts actually did do some preparation there due to the landscape. This was an Icelandic tour guide who said that but given the later behaviour of Icelandic bankers I am wary as to its truthfulness

He is right, it does feel like being on the moon.
I've been there twice in both the summer & winter and the moon description in my opinion is a great analogy. If you travel to certain parts of Iceland the rocky ground looks like a lunar type surface due to historic lava spills.
